Rice Paper “Bacon”

When Garren first told me he wanted to try a recipe for an alternative to bacon I couldn’t hide the eye roll. I love our plant based lifestyle but an alternative to bacon? Some things just can’t have a replacement! Or so I thought. When I tried this for the first I was shocked how good it is. The texture and the flavor is so delicious! Now you couldn’t give this to some one to trick them into thinking it’s bacon but it is a very good replacement. We made BLT’s with it a few time and they were delicious. This isn’t a unique recipe, you will find a ton of different variations online. This is just the combination of ingredients we like. Be adventurous and give it a shot!


  • 10 sheets of Rice Paper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 3 tbsp tamari/soy sauce/liquid amminos (any one will work)
  • 1/2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp liquid smoke
  • 1/2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper


Place two sheets of rice paper together and cut into stripes with kitchen sheers or a very sharp knife. Run the sides that touch under water and then put back together to “glue” them together.


Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Combine the rest of the ingredients, whisk together and then use a pastry brush to paint both sides of the rice paper with the marinade.

Bake for 7-10 minutes. I find about 9-9.5 is perfect. It can burn quickly so pay attention. You want it crispy.

Eat it plain, with your favorite breakfast dishes (I have a good one coming Thursday!) or on a sandwich.


I love the texture on this “bacon”.
